Các diễn đạt chỉ lợi ích (Expressions of Advantages) là một trong những nhóm cấu trúc từ vựng phổ biến trong IELTS Writing Task 2; đặc biệt chúng được sử dụng rất nhiều trong dạng bài Discussion, Pros&Cons và Argument.
Để sử dụng thành thạo các cấu trúc đó đòi hỏi người học ielts phải hiểu rõ ý nghĩa cũng như luyện tập viết luận trong thời gian dài. Với 5 kiểu diễn đạt dưới đây hy vọng bạn sẽ không rơi vào tình trạng “bí” khi làm IELTS Writing Task 2

5 kiểu diễn đạt chỉ lợi ích trong ielts writing

1. To enable/help/allow somebody to do something:
Definition: giúp ai làm việc gì
Eg: Doing regular exercise helps people to keep fit
Eg: Reading books frequently allows children to develop their imagination.
2. To bring huge advantages to sb/ to bring sb huge advantages
Definition: mang đến lợi ích rất lớn cho ai
Eg: Mobile electronic devices bring huge advantages to users when they travel or work outside the office. These kinds of equipment enable people to telecommute and stay in touch with their family or colleagues.
3. To provide sb with enormous benefits/ To provide enormous benefits for sb
Definition: mang đến nhiều lợi ích cho ai
Eg: Globalization provides enormous benefits for developing countries. This process has helped to not only create more jobs for local people in the host country but also stimulate domestic economic development.
4. To mostly benefit sb
Definition:  rất có lợi cho ai
Eg: Providing more public sports facilities mostly benefits local residents who wish to keep fit or take part in some low-cost sports activities.
5. To gain from sth
Definition: hưởng lợi từ cái gì
Eg: Both schools and learners gain much from the process of applying technological advances in class. In fact, the use of modern equipments such as computers, smart boards or projectors has helped teachers to better illustrate their lessons using videos, images or sounds and students to create more captivating presentations as well as stimulate their creativity.

Các ví dụ về idiom Ielts speaking

1. “to be in seventh heaven” = to be extremely happy, or in a state of bliss.

Question: Describe a childhood memory.
Answer: Back when I was a child, everytime I got taken to our city’s biggest amusement park I always felt like I was in seventh heaven
because I could enjoy playing a lot of fantastic games there and at the end of the day I could cap off with a tour around the park on monorail.
2. “(in) the middle of nowhere” = describes a place far away from any towns and cities and where few people live

Question: Talk about a house or an apartment you would like to live in.
Answer: I wanna be away from the hustle and bustle of city life but I wouldn’t wish my dream home to be in the middle of nowhere. The thing is…. i dont wanna lose touch with my friends while i still have access to all the services when i need……….so a house in the suburb would be my perfect choice I guess.
3. “every cloud has a silver lining” = every difficult or sad situation has a comforting or more hopeful aspect even though this may not be immediately apparent

Question: Describe a sports event you have attended.
Answer: My most recent trip to the local stadium to watch our home team competing for the National Championship was an unexpected one. I was given the ticket in compensation for a cancelled trip, so I guess as the saying goes, every cloud really has a silver lining…
4. “hustle and bustle” = busy and noisy activities
hustle and bustleQuestion: What do you like about where you live?
Answer: I totally enjoy living in the suburbs as I can have a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city but still have access to all the services I need.
5. “not a cat in hell’s chance” = no chance at all
not a cat in hells chance
Question: Describe a memorable event in your life.
Answer: When I was about 10, some types of electrical malfunction set our house on fire. We hadn’t a cat in hell’s chance of rescuing our possessions before they were burned into nothing…

Khi miêu tả appearance của một object nào đó, chúng ta nên chú ý miêu tả size, shape, color, what it’s made of and how it’s used…
Đôi khi, cue card sẽ yêu cầu “Describe a gift you have recently received……” – đây là một nhánh của Describe an object nhé cả nhà. Lúc này, ta chỉ việc nghĩ về cái đồng hồ, cái điện thoại… mà mình được tặng rồi áp dụng các structure để Describe an object trong hình thôi!

#1. Describe an old object which your family has kept for a long time.
You should say
– what the object is
– where it came from
– how long it has been in your family
And explain why your family has kept it.

And explain why it is special for you.

1. unwind (v): to relax after a stressful activity
Examiner: What do you think of vacations?
Candidate: I think it’s important to get away at least once a year. Holidays give you a chance to unwind.
2. pass away: die, in a polite way
Eg: Describe your favorite person in the family.
My granddad, who was my biggest influence growing up, passed away peacefully at 83 in his sleep…
3. pick on: choose someone to treat unkindly, blame, punish, bully
Eg: Describe yourself emotionally.
I’m the type of meanie who loves picking on people I adore. It’s a bad trait I guess, but that’s who I am…
4. boil down to: be summarized as
Eg: Describe a sport event that you have watched.
… In the end, it boiled down to the question of who was going to win, not how was that win achieved..
5. get something across/over: make understandable or communicate
Eg: What do you consider the best means of communication?
Well I think it depends on who you ask. Personally, I prefer emails as I can spend as much time as I want to perfect all the words to get my point across in the best possible way.
6. get away: to go on holiday/vacation
Eg: What do you think of vacations?
I think it’s important to get away at least once a year. Holidays give you a chance to unwind.
7. Have a get together: social meeting
Eg: How often do you see your friends?
My friends and I usually have a get together every Sunday. We’ll just meet for some food and have a chat.
8. get back into: become interested in something again
Eg: What kind of music do you like?
I stopped listening to jazz music for many years, but I’ve got back into it again recently.

Confusing Words trong ielts speaking

#1. Notable & Noticeable 

Notable = widely known, or esteemed. 
Eg: 
Examiner: Can you tell me about a famous person that you know of?
Candidate: Argubably the most well-known person of Vietnam, Uncle Ho is most famous for his notable contribution to the fight for freedom and independence of the Vietnamese people…
– Noticeable = detectable (i.e. sufficient to be noticed).
Eg:
Examiner: How is the young generation of your country now differs to the past’s?
Candidate: It is noticeable that Vietnamese youth nowadays lives very different from the not too distant past. Youth face a society that is rapidly changing – and as a result attitudes towards gender, drug use and sexual relationships are much more open than previous generations.

#2. Disinterested &Uninterested

Disinterested: no personal interest or benefit at stake.
Eg:
Examiner: What quality do you think is the most important in selecting a board of jury?
Candidate: There are numerous factors to consider forming a board of jury, but I believe it is essential to choose only individuals who are disinterested in the case.
Uninterested: not interested. It is the consequence of something being uninteresting (i.e., boring, uneventful or arousing no interest).
Eg:
Examiner: Can you tell me about one of your hobbies?
Candidate: I used to collect stamps, but I am uninterested these days. It is costly and time-consuming so I stopped a while back.

#3. Beside & Besides

Besides: making an additional point, anyway, and another thing
Eg: 
Examiner: What are the disadvantages of the Internet?
Candidate: Besides the goods that being brought by the internet, there are some negatives that come with it. One of the most serious problems in my opinion is the speedy development of social media which is promoted by the internet. Some people are lazy to deal with real social life because they feel unhappy with their real life and would rather remain in the cyber world.
Beside: next to, at the side of
Eg:
Examiner: Where are you from?
Candidate: I come from Namdinh, a city in the north of Vietnam. One of the most attractive features of my hometown is the availability of fresh seafood as it is located beside the sea.
